The English Premier League as we know it was born on May 27, 1992, out of a calculated act of rebellion. England’s top 22 clubs, weary of sharing television revenue with lower divisions, broke away from the Football League to form their own entity. The gamble was astronomical. But it paid off beyond imagination.
